The President of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar, Fr. José Minaku, SJ, has announced the appointment of Fr. Peter Knox, SJ as Assistant JCAM Tertianship Instructor at the Zinkwazi Tertianship Community, in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa with immediate effect. He will also serve as Treasurer of the community.
The appointment follows a period of consultation and comes after the departure of Fr. Isaac Kiyaka, SJ, who has concluded his service as Assistant Instructor and taken up a new mission in South Sudan. Fr. Isaac had served the Zinkwazi Tertianship since September 2021, contributing to the formation and spiritual accompaniment of Jesuits in their final stage of formation.
Fr. Knox’s arrival is expected to ensure continuity and stability in the life of the Tertianship, particularly as Sch. Jonata Valane, SJ reaches the completion of his Regency. His experience in pastoral ministry and academic formation is seen as a valuable contribution to the ongoing mission of the Tertianship community.
In the announcement issued from Africama House in Nairobi, Fr. Minaku expressed gratitude to Fr. Chiti Leonard, SJ, Provincial of the Southern Africa Province, for generously missioning Fr. Knox to this service of the Conference. He also thanked Fr. Knox for his readiness to assume the role on short notice.
Often international in composition, Tertianship also fosters intercultural exchange and strengthens bonds across provinces, reinforcing the global and missionary character of Jesuit life.
The Zinkwazi Tertianship plays a vital role in Jesuit formation, accompanying men in the final stage of their spiritual and apostolic preparation before final vows. The community now welcomes Fr. Knox as he begins this new responsibility.

If you wish to make a donation by direct bank transfer please contact Fr Paul Hamill SJ treasurer@jesuits.africa. Fr Paul will get in touch with you about the best method of transfer for you and share account details with you. Donations can be one-off gifts or of any frequency; for example, you might wish to become a regular monthly donor of small amounts; that sort of reliable income can allow for very welcome forward planning in the development of the Society’s works in Africa and Madagascar.
Often it is easier to send a donation to an office within your own country and Fr Paul can advise on how that might be done. In some countries this kind of giving can also be recognised for tax relief and the necessary receipts will be issued.
