He served as ad Providentiam Assistant to Father General and as Regional Assistant for Africa and Madagascar.
About sixteen months ago, Fr Masawe suffered a serious heart attack. Recently, he had been receiving care at the Canisius Community infirmary.
Fr. Masawe dedicated many years of his Jesuit life to serving the universal Society, particularly through his long and generous service to the Jesuit Conference, Provinces, Regions and Missions of Africa and Madagascar. For the last decade, he had served as Assistant ad Providentiam.
Born in 1956 in Tanzania, Fr Masawe entered the Society on 4 July 1979 and pronounced his Final Vows on 8 December 1996.
We commend Fr Masawe to your prayers, and request Jesuit communities and friends to offer Masses and prayers for the repose of his soul, and also in thanksgiving for his life and service. We also pray for his family, his Province of Eastern Africa, and all those who mourn him, particularly the community at the General Curia in Rome.
Funeral arrangements will be communicated later.
May the soul of Fr Fratern Masawe, and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God rest in peace!
