The appointment, made by the Father General, Arturo Sosa, SJ, will take effect on July 31, 2026. Fr. Dominique succeeds Fr. Rigobert Kyungu Musenge, SJ, who has led the province through the challenging post-COVID period.
“It is with great joy that I announce this,” said Fr. Minaku. “We thank God for this blessing to our Province, and we appreciate Fr. Dominique for his availability, generosity, and dedication. Let us pray for our new Provincial as he prepares to assume this important role.”
Fr. Minaku also extended deep gratitude to the outgoing Provincial. “We also want to sincerely thank Fr. Rigobert Kyungu Musenge, SJ, for his dedicated and generous service as Provincial during a very difficult post-COVID period. His leadership, persistence, and compassion for the Province have been a real blessing to the Society and those we serve. We keep him in our prayers and support as he begins his new mission.”
Fr. Dominique brings a wealth of international and pastoral experience to his new role. Born on June 27, 1976, in Strasbourg, France, his formative years were spent in the Democratic Republic of Congo. He began his education at Collège Imara in Lubumbashi before continuing at Collège Maele in Kisangani.
He entered the Society of Jesus on September 22, 1996, completing his novitiate in Kisantu in 1998. His academic journey includes philosophical studies at Saint Pierre Canisius in Kimwenza (1998–2001), a regency at the Institut Technique et Professionnel in Kikwit (2001–2003), and theological studies at Hekima College in Nairobi, Kenya (2003–2006).
He was ordained a deacon in Nairobi on February 18, 2006, and was ordained a priest in his hometown of Lubumbashi on July 28, 2007. His intellectual pursuits later led him to Europe, where he earned a Licentiate (Master’s) in Biblical Theology from Frankfurt am Main, Germany, in 2014.
Upon returning to the DRC, Fr. Dominique served as Director of the Manresa Spiritual Center in Kinshasa and Kimwenza (2015–2020). He later became Rector of the Institut Technique et Professionnel in Kikwit (2020–2023) while also assisting the Provincial as Delegate for the Kwilu Region. He took his final vows in Kinshasa on January 25, 2023.
Most recently, in response to a request from the Dicastery for Evangelization, Fr. Dominique has been serving as Spiritual Director and formator for future diocesan priests from mission countries at the Pontificio Collegio Urbano in Rome, a role he has held since September 2023.
As he prepares to take office, the JCAM president, Fr. Minaku, requests for your prayers for Fr. Dominique’s leadership and for the continued mission of the Society of Jesus in Central Africa.
