Vatican Covid-19 Commission Africa explores leadership in Africa through this campaign "A Better Kind of Politics"

In the Encyclical, Fratelli Tutti, Pope Francis sees politics as one of the most valuable forms of charity because it is placed at the service of the common good. Politics which expresses the right form of populism recognizes the importance of people. This recognition of people sees them as an open category, available for discussion and dialogue. The Pope encourages efforts that will engender policy that is “with” and “of” the poor (n. 169).

In this Vlog of the Africa Task Force of the Vatican Commission on COVID-19 coordinated by JENA, African Theologian, and President of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM), Fr. Agbonkhianmeghe Orobator, S.J. explicates this important teaching of the Pope. Fr. Orobator bemoans the current dearth of political leadership in African and the world over and calls for a type of leadership that is at the service of people especially the vulnerable and responsive to a crisis like the current one, in ways that help people to gracefully weather the crisis.
