Rome: November 3, 2026 - The Superior General of the Society of Jesus, Very Rev. Fr. Arturo Sosa, S.J., has appointed Fr. Onu Aghadi Michael, S.J., as the next Provincial Superior of the Jesuit North-West Africa Province (ANW). Fr. Onu will officially assume office on December 3, 2026.

He succeeds Fr. John Ghansah, S.J., who has served as Provincial of the ANW Province since June 29, 2023. Father General expressed his heartfelt gratitude to Fr. Ghansah for his leadership and service to the Province during his tenure.

Born on October 7, 1972, Fr. Onu joined the Society of Jesus on August 7, 1994. He was ordained to the priesthood on July 22, 2006, and professed his final vows as a Jesuit on May 21, 2011.

Throughout his Jesuit journey, Fr. Onu has held significant roles focused on formation and vocation promotion. He served as Socius to the Novice Director from 2006 to 2010, followed by a term as Vocations Director from 2011 to 2012. He then served as Novice Director from 2012 to 2016. Currently, Fr. Onu carries a diverse portfolio of responsibilities within the Province. He is a Province Consultor, priest-in-charge of St. Jude Catholic Church in Emu Unor, Acting Superior of the Arrupe Jesuit College community, and serves as the Tertian Assistant of a province tertianship program in Cape Coast.

As Fr. Onu prepares to take up this new mantle of leadership, the Province invites all the faithful and fellow Jesuits to keep him in prayer, asking that the Lord may grant him wisdom, courage, and discernment, and that the Holy Spirit may guide him in leading the North-West Africa in fidelity to the mission of Christ.

We wish Fr. Onu every grace and blessing as he prepares to lead the North-West Africa Province in service to the Church and the people of God.
