The appointment was announced from Nairobi on October 10, 2026, and Fr. Kyaligonza will assume office on December 3, 2026.
The Society gives thanks to the Lord for this appointment and assures Fr. Kyaligonza of its prayers and support as he prepares to take up this important responsibility in the service of the Society and its mission.
A Ugandan Jesuit priest born on May 27, 1977, Fr. Kyaligonza entered the Society of Jesus on June 30, 2002, was ordained to the priesthood on August 4, 2012, and pronounced his final vows on February 11, 2018. His academic formation reflects a deep commitment to leadership and administration. He earned a Master's degree in Business Administration from Boston College in the United States, where he studied from 2013 to 2016, and later pursued doctoral studies in Organizational Leadership at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, from 2020 to 2023.
Throughout his years in the Eastern Africa Province, Fr. Kyaligonza has served in a variety of roles that have shaped his understanding of the Society's life and mission. He was Vocation Promoter from 2012 to 2014, during which time he also served on the Parish Pastoral Team at St. Joseph the Worker Parish in Kangemi. He then served as Formation Assistant from 2016 to 2018, followed by his appointment as Socius to the Provincial from 2018 to 2020. From 2025 until the time of his appointment, he has been Superior of the Alberto Hurtado Jesuit Community at Ocer Campion Jesuit College in Gulu, Uganda, while also serving as University Chaplain at Gulu University and as a lecturer in the Department of Economics and Statistics at the same institution.
Above and beyond his love for the Society and for his fellow Jesuits, Fr. Kyaligonza brings to his new mission considerable experience in Jesuit formation, governance, and community leadership, together with academic expertise in organizational leadership.
As he prepares for this new responsibility, the Province invites all to keep him in prayer, asking that the Lord may grant him wisdom, discernment, and courage, and that the Spirit may guide him in leading the Eastern Africa Province in fidelity to the Jesuit vocation and the mission of Christ.
