The appointments were confirmed by Fr. Douglas Marcouiller, SJ, Vicar ad tempus, acting in the absence of the Father General, via a letter dated 20 October 2026.
Effective immediately, Fr. Jean-Luc Enyengue, SJ, and Fr. Deogratias Rwezaura, SJ, join the JCAM leadership team.
Fr. Enyengue, who currently serves as the Provincial of West Africa (AOC), succeeds Fr. Mathieu Ndomba, SJ. Fr. Rwezaura, currently the JCAM Delegate for Formation (AOR), takes over from Fr. Chioma Nyonsu, SJ (ANW).
In his announcement to Provincials and the JCAM community, the President of the Conference, Fr. José Minaku, SJ, extended a warm welcome to the new Consultors while expressing deep gratitude to their predecessors.
“On behalf of the entire Conference, I wish to express our profound gratitude to Fr. Mathieu Ndomba, SJ, and Fr. Chioma Nyonsu, SJ, for their generous and dedicated service as Consultors over the last years,” Fr. Minaku wrote. “Their contributions to our deliberations and to the life of the Conference have been greatly appreciated.”
The appointment comes at a critical juncture for the Conference. Fr. Minaku noted that the Society of Jesus in Africa and Madagascar is currently called to make significant decisions regarding formation, apostolic collaboration, and the future of its common mission.
“At a time when our Conference is called to make important decisions... the quality of our discernment and the strength of our fraternal communion remain indispensable,” the President stated.
The Consultors play a vital advisory role in the governance of the Conference, assisting the President in major decision-making processes and ensuring the implementation of the Society’s mission across the continent.
Fr. Minaku concluded his message by inviting all members of the JCAM community to keep the new Consultors in their prayers, “that their service may contribute to the greater glory of God and the good of the Society of Jesus in Africa and Madagascar.”
