From 17 to 22 August 2025, the city of Harare, Zimbabwe, will host a remarkable gathering of Jesuit educators, collaborators, and partners in mission from across Africa, Madagascar, and beyond.

The second edition of the Jesuit Association of Secondary and Basic Education in Africa and Madagascar (JASBEAM) Colloquium will take place at two renowned Catholic institutions—St George’s College and Hartmann House. This gathering, held under the theme “Committed to Networking at the Service of the Mission to Education for Faith in the 21st Century,” promises to be much more than a typical conference.

Building on the momentum and insight of the inaugural colloquium held in Abuja, Nigeria, in 2022, the upcoming event will deepen the conversation around Jesuit education today, drawing together over 150 educators and thought leaders from various corners of the world. Participants will reflect on how Jesuit schools can respond to the evolving challenges of faith-based education in the 21st century, while fostering meaningful collaboration across borders and institutions.

At the heart of the Colloquium lies the conviction that faith-based education remains not only relevant but essential in our time. Under the theme “Networking for Faith-Based Education” and the energising catch phrase “Have Faith, Educate, Network,” this event invites participants to engage in critical conversations and collective discernment. Keynote speakers and facilitators from Africa, Europe, the Americas, and beyond will guide discussions that touch on innovation, inclusion, spiritual formation, and the sustainability of Jesuit educational missions today.

The visual identity of JASBEAM 2025 has also been thoughtfully designed to reflect its deeper purpose. The official logo incorporates vibrant colours, representing the energy and diversity that each participant brings to the event. The image of interconnected people symbolises unity and collaboration, while the prominent letter "C" stands for Colloquium-reminding all of the centrality of dialogue and community. A subtle compass points toward shared direction and purpose, evoking the hope that each participant will leave renewed in spirit and with concrete commitments. At the centre, though invisible, is a cross, a quiet yet powerful reminder that this gathering is deeply rooted in Jesuit identity and Ignatian values.

Throughout the week, JASBEAM 2025 will offer an immersive and enriching experience. Participants will enjoy moments of cultural celebration, including a closing cultural dinner where African attire and traditions will be joyfully on display. Each school will also be encouraged to bring a small souvenir, perhaps a tie, badge, or school crest, to exchange with others, creating lasting connections and shared memories.

To ensure inclusivity and accessibility, all major sessions will offer simultaneous language translation. Interactive breakout sessions will allow for deeper engagement with core topics, while planned excursions around Harare will give participants a chance to experience the beauty, history, and hospitality of Zimbabwe. The final day will culminate in a collaborative session where participants will draft practical resolutions - clear, actionable steps that will continue to shape the mission of Jesuit education across the continent and around the world.

JASBEAM 2025 will be a space for sharing stories, renewing commitment, and building networks that strengthen our common mission. It is an invitation to come with open hearts and minds, ready to be inspired and transformed. As we look to the future of Jesuit education, this gathering calls us to build something enduring, rooted in faith, propelled by collaboration, and animated by the Ignatian vision of forming men and women for and with others.
