We are delighted to share the joyful news of the appointment of Fr. Avelino Chicoma Bundo Chico, S.J. as the new Office Head at the Dicastery for Promoting Integral Human Development in the Roman Curia.
Pope Leo XIV has entrusted this important role to Fr. Chico, recognizing his longstanding dedication to the Church’s mission of justice, peace, and the defense of human dignity.
Fr. Chico, a Jesuit from the Central Africa Province (ACE) has served faithfully as an official within the Dicastery, working tirelessly on behalf of migrants, refugees, and all those marginalized by systems of inequality and injustice. His new appointment comes as a testament to his commitment to promoting integral human development in accordance with the vision of Pope Francis.
This Dicastery plays a vital role in coordinating the Church’s efforts in areas such as care for creation, peace-building, health care, and humanitarian aid—ministries that lie close to the heart of the Society of Jesus and the wider Church.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Fr. Chico and offer our prayers for strength and wisdom as he assumes this new responsibility. May his leadership continue to be a source of hope and transformation for the global Church and those it seeks to serve.
Ad majorem Dei gloriam - For the greater glory of God.

If you wish to make a donation by direct bank transfer please contact Fr Paul Hamill SJ treasurer@jesuits.africa. Fr Paul will get in touch with you about the best method of transfer for you and share account details with you. Donations can be one-off gifts or of any frequency; for example, you might wish to become a regular monthly donor of small amounts; that sort of reliable income can allow for very welcome forward planning in the development of the Society’s works in Africa and Madagascar.
Often it is easier to send a donation to an office within your own country and Fr Paul can advise on how that might be done. In some countries this kind of giving can also be recognised for tax relief and the necessary receipts will be issued.
