In a significant step forward for our apostolic mission, the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM) is pleased to announce the appointment of Fr. Eyrah Foli, SJ, from the Jesuit North-West Africa (ANW) province as Conference Coordinator for the Ignatian Youth Ministry.
This mission is designed to unify, animate, and amplify the impact of Jesuit youth ministries across the African continent.
The appointment, made by Father José Minaku, SJ, the JCAM President, marks the fulfillment of a long-term goal for the Conference. It directly responds to the Apostolic Directions outlined by Father General Arturo Sosa, SJ, in 2022, emphasising the Society of Jesus's universal commitment to walking with young people.
Fr. Foli, is tasked with overseeing a wide range of youth initiatives, ensuring they are aligned with the third Universal Apostolic Preference (UAP 3): "To accompany young people in the creation of a hope-filled future." The role recognizes the crucial part that African youth play in the Society’s broader mission of global transformation.
Officially designated as a "JCAM Official," Fr. Foli, will be responsible for animating a dedicated "JCAM Support Structure" for Ignatian Youth Ministry.
This role will involve:
Engaging and collaborating with province youth coordinators across the conference; planning and facilitating meetings, gatherings, and formative activities; providing regular updates on the progress and needs of the ministry; and ensuring all efforts are synergized and aligned with the overarching mission of Society of Jesus.
The JCAM President in a letter dated 27 August 2025, expressed, gratitude to Father John Ghansah, SJ, the Provincial, Jesuit North-West Africa province, for his support in this new chapter of JCAM leadership. He also called for prayers and support for Fr. Foli, as he takes up the new mission.
This appointment signals a renewed and strengthened commitment to the young people of Africa, empowering them to become leaders of hope and agents of change in the world.

Donations can be one-off gifts or of any frequency; for example, you might wish to become a regular monthly donor of small amounts; that sort of reliable income can allow for very welcome forward planning in the development of the Society’s works in Africa and Madagascar.
Often it is easier to send a donation to an office within your own country and Fr Paul can advise on how that might be done. In some countries this kind of giving can also be recognised for tax relief and the necessary receipts will be issued.
