Father General has appointed Fr. Solofonirina Jocelyn Rabeson (53) as the next Provincial of the Province of Madagascar.
He entered the Society of Jesus at the Province novitiate in 1987. In 1998, he was ordained a priest in Antananarivo, and he took his final vows in Nairobi in December 2011.
Jocelyn Rabeson went through the Society’s standard formation process: juniorate, philosophy, and theology. He did his theological undergraduate studies at Hekima College (Nairobi, Kenya), and his graduate studies at Weston Jesuit School of Theology (Cambridge, USA). After a course in Archival Studies at Georgetown (USA), he completed a PhD in Ecclesiology at the Catholic University of East Africa, Nairobi, in 2014.
Between and after his academic studies, Fr. Rabeson worked in a missionary district, was the Province Librarian-Archivist, and also served as the librarian at Hekima College. Since 2018 he has been the Rector of the ITCJ (Institut de théologie de la Compagnie de Jésus) in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.
He will take office after the Congregation of Procurators (May 2023).

If you wish to make a donation by direct bank transfer please contact Fr Paul Hamill SJ treasurer@jesuits.africa. Fr Paul will get in touch with you about the best method of transfer for you and share account details with you. Donations can be one-off gifts or of any frequency; for example, you might wish to become a regular monthly donor of small amounts; that sort of reliable income can allow for very welcome forward planning in the development of the Society’s works in Africa and Madagascar.
Often it is easier to send a donation to an office within your own country and Fr Paul can advise on how that might be done. In some countries this kind of giving can also be recognised for tax relief and the necessary receipts will be issued.
