African Jesuits AIDS Network (AJAN) roll out a Mobile App to Sensitize African Youth on HIV/AIDS

To ensure that African youth continue to enjoy exciting opportunities from the African Jesuits AIDS Network (AJAN), towards improving their knowledge on HIV and AIDS, we are happy to announce the 'AHAPPY' mobile app. In a letter to the AJAN network directors on 15 September 2020, Fr. John the Baptist Anyeh-Zamcho SJ, Socius to the President of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM), and acting director to AJAN, called on everyone to share the information to as many youths as possible to ensure successful enrollment and commencement of learning on the platform.

Based on Ignatian principles, this mobile app is developed from the AJAN HIV and AIDS Prevention Programme (AHAPPY) manual which was designed to empower the youth with knowledge about HIV and AIDS in Africa. The AHAPPY programme is aimed at reducing vulnerability and contraction of HIV by the youth. Through it, AJAN works to promote their growth holistically for the achievement of their fullest potential. It helps them avert the devastation caused by HIV and AIDS in Africa by bringing them aboard as accomplished soldiers in the fight against HIV and AIDS. Encouraging youth to get tested for HIV enables them to know their status but the programme also seeks to strengthen them take responsibility of their own lives through informed decisions such as sexual abstinence and use of ARV drugs for those who may be already infected besides being agents of positive change.

The mobile app is targeted to the youth of ages 10 to 24 and will also be able to boost their life skills. It is available in English, French, and Portuguese and proposes five modules and an innovative interface where users can interact with each other.

There are five areas on the mobile app to gain knowledge from namely: Awakening to myself, This world I live in, Facing a world with HIV and AIDS, Knowing myself to grow myself, and The foundation on which I build my life.

To enroll use the following methods:
Method 1: Register online on this link {www.ahappy.ajan.africa}
Method 2: Download the mobile app from {www.ahappy.ajan.africa} and then register on the downloaded app.

A student who successfully completes this course will be issued with an online certificate from AJAN.
