March 14, Nairobi - “It is certainly a great honour and a surprise.” Fr. Deogratias M. Rwezaura SJ, said, during the visit of the Malagasy President Mr. Andry Rajoelina and the First Lady, Mrs. Mialy Rajoelina who were welcomed on March 14, 2019, for the first time at Hekima University College, in Nairobi-Kenya.
Around 18:15 (local time) Mr. Andry Rajoelina, President of the Republic of Madagascar, and the First Lady, Mrs. Mialy Rajoelina were welcomed by Fr. Deogratias M. Rwezaura SJ, Rector of Hekima University College, and Ms. Arlene Acosta, Registrar of the same institution. Abel Rakotomala, Consul of Madagascar in Kenya accompanied the President in his visit to the Jesuit institution.
This is the first ever visit of a Malagasy President to this Jesuit institution that trains lay and religious theologians. The visit also takes place on the sidelines of the international meeting on the environment, which is being held at Nairobi One Planet Summit, on the theme “Africa Pledge”.
The President of Madagascar and the First Lady were taken on a brief tour of the Jesuit School of Theology (Hekima) and had interactions with the lay and Jesuit Malagasy community in Nairobi and the Hekima Jesuit Community members.
