On June 16, 2020, the JCAM President, Fr. Agbonkhianmeghe E. Orobator SJ, announced the appointment of Fr. Ismael Matambura SJ, as the next Director of African Jesuit AIDS Network (AJAN). Fr. Matambura is a member of the Central Africa Province (ACE), and presently leads Centre Maisha in Kisangani, RDC. He will replace Fr. Elphège Quenum SJ.
This appointment comes after an extensive process of consultation involving AJAN partners in the Provinces and Regions of Africa and Madagascar, and the Consultors of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar (JCAM).
The President conveyed his gratitude to Fr. Quenum who has led AJAN for the last 3 years. Besides ensuring the smooth operation of AJAN, he also facilitated the administrative and strategic restructuring of AJAN, including the relocation of its operations to Africama House – the secretariat of the Jesuit Conference of Africa and Madagascar.
The President thanked Fr. Quenum for his dedication, passion, and commitment to the ministry of AJAN wishing him well in his next mission.
As Fr. Matambura assumes his new mission, the President has expressed gratitude for his availability for this mission. He also noted that the Conference will be counting on the continued constructive collaboration and generous support for the work of AJAN during these challenging times.
As for the leadership transition, this will take place as soon as conditions allow for safe travel.
